This week Playtime Poppy’s teaching artists visited several area 5th grade classes for the “One Great Line” program. Students became “designers” and learned how to use the design process to create 5 short plays—one line long—in just one hour. Each “play” is produced in 5 minutes with students participating in 5 different stations: Sound, Lights, Costumes, Direction, and Set Design. Students rotate to a different station for each one-line play, so during the hour they experience all of the highly interactive areas. At the end of each 5-minute session the Playtime Poppy actor/teaching artist presents the one-line play and then debriefs why each group made their choices. Together, they used their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and they came up with some great ideas! One Great Line is part of Playtime Poppy’s Arts-integrated Education program.
