Are you wanting to introduce your 3rd grade students to the back-stage magic that brings a story to life? Playtime Poppy Children’s Theatre invites 3rd graders to participate in Operation Backstage! throughout the season. Join us!

Operation Backstage! A tour behind the scenes

Aligned with 3rd Grade Literacy Standards, Operation Backstage! is a field trip designed to explore how key details in a story are realized on stage through the technical theatre:  set design, costumes, make-up, lighting, sound and directing. Children interact with Playtime Poppy crew members to explore a specific theme from each production. At interactive stations, children are encouraged to ask questions, make connections to other areas of learning, visualize, and demonstrate understanding through creative expression.

This experience supports 3rd Grade Iowa Core Standards for English Language Arts:

    Key Ideas and Details

IA.1.Employ the full range of research-based comprehension strategies, including making connections, determining importance, questioning, visualizing, making inferences, summarizing, and monitoring for comprehension.

    Speaking and Listening

Determine the main ideas and supporting details of a text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally. (SL.3.2)
